Why are Quebecers so keen to ban religious symbols?

Laws restricting the wearing of religious symbols are in place in a number of European countries but are relatively unique in the North American context.
Luc Turgeon est professeur agrégé à l’École d’études politiques de l’Université d’Ottawa. Ses travaux portent sur le nationalisme et l’identité nationale, la politique des États multinationaux et les attitudes envers l’immigration. Ses travaux ont été publiés dans plusieurs revues et il a co-dirigé deux ouvrages publiés chez University of British Columbia Press: Comparing Canada et Segmented Cities. En 2020, il a remporté avec ses collaborateurs le prix John McMenemy attribué au meilleur article publié en 2019 dans la Revue canadienne de science politique pour son article sur les déterminants de l’appui aux politiques de restriction du port de symboles religieux au Québec et dans le reste du Canada.
